Equity Lessons Learned from Virtual Teaching with Tamara Russell, Ep. 52 Buzzing with Ms. B: The Coaching Podcast

Virtual teaching has brought to the forefront issues of equity in education that were ignored in the past. National board-certified teacher, Tamara Russell, joins me to talk about the equity lessons that she has learned and what we can learn from this virtual teaching experience. Learn how instructional coaches can support teachers so that every student gets what they need, whether in person or remotely.

Teachers have been voicing their concerns about inequity in education for years. The pandemic has brought many of those issues to the forefront.

Tamara Russell from Mrs. Russell’s Room joins me to talk about equity in the classroom and across the education system. She defines equity and gives examples of what it looks like in the classroom.

We discuss how unprepared schools were for remote learning and how the structural systems in place added to the problem.

She also addresses the importance of building the staff's capacity to have difficult discussions and how equity committees can help.

You’ll get practical tips on how coaches can support their teachers during this difficult time.

Tune in to learn tips to create the kind of education where every kid and every teacher gets what they need to thrive virtually.

Building Morale in a Virtual Setting, Ep. 51 Buzzing with Ms. B: The Coaching Podcast

How to Build Teachers Morale at School as an Instructional Coach It’s hard to boost teacher morale during the best of times but even harder to do remotely. On this episode of the podcast, I give you nine ways to build staff morale virtually. Tune in to get ideas and activities to build morale at school and build relationships with your teams.

It’s challenging to build morale virtually with teachers.

But there are things you can do as an instructional coach to develop relationships with teachers and boost their morale remotely.

For this episode, I share a taste of what goes on in our Coaching and Coffee Membership. The membership provides support, professional development, and community for instructional coaches.

Members have access to videos in our Virtual Coaching Café library. There they can search for topics and get access to information that helps them support their teachers.

I use the audio from a video inside the members' vault to share nine ways to build morale while working with teachers in a virtual setting. I offer activities to try with your team to develop relationships and boost their spirits.

If you’ve heard me talk about the membership before and wondered what it's like inside, here's your chance to get a sneak peek.

Coaching Call: Assessments & Data with Christy El-Jerby, Ep. 49 Buzzing with Ms. B: The Coaching Podcast

Instructional coaches are natural problem solvers, but sometimes we need another person's perspective. You're going to walk away with some great ideas. #instructionalcoaching #instructionalcoachingstrategies #assessmentstrategies
When we are too close to a problem, it can be hard to see solutions. That’s why I’m introducing something new this season!

About once a month, I’ll have a guest coach come on and discuss their coaching challenges. We're going to talk through the issues they're having and come up with possible next steps to get different results. These episodes will get to the nitty-gritty of what it’s really like to support teachers and how to overcome obstacles.

Christy El-Jerby, a member of our Coffee and Coaching membership, joins me to discuss the data cycle. She's been a literacy coach for ten years and currently works with multiple language learners at an international school. Don’t miss our conversation about how the shift from in-person instruction to virtual has impacted how we do assessments and just about everything else!
