Schoolwide Literacy Projects

Schoolwide Literacy Projects are endeavors I have undertaken with the support of my administration and teachers to try to grow literacy on our elementary school campus. Some of these are simple: Book of the Month (which was already in place when I arrived at the school), and some are more innovative, like my Book Buddies program which is closing out its first year! Read below to find out more about our literacy projects!
These family-friendly events help bring the community to the school and reinforce the fun and importance of reading.

English Camps
Several Saturdays through the year, we schedule camps for students who are learning English. Our ELLs get to come in and work with a teacher who provides them with opportunities to read, write, speak, and listen in English!

Summer Reading Fun Days
Our fun literacy camps took place over the summer. Kids participated in literacy activities and took home free books!

Read Across America Celebrations
At our school, we celebrate Dr. Seuss in so many ways! Fun events, dressing up in Seuss style, daily snacks, guest readers, and more!

Literacy Bulletin Boards & Displays
Throughout the school, I feature bulletin boards and displays that encourage reading. We never know what will make an impact on our kids.

Special Delivery Book Bags Read all about this easy and fun tool to get kids excited about reading!
