Having a tiny heart attack

Okay, so I don't exactly live in a rural area, but this is a sight that greeted me at my new school today:
Two jackrabbits (one is in front of the trash can and one is behind it). Isn't that funny? I'm going to take it as a good omen because I am terrified at leaving the classroom where I have been happy for nine years teaching third and fourth graders to move across town to a different school as a Literacy Lead. Daily I ask myself, "Who made me do this?! Whose brilliant idea was this?! Why am I leaving my buddies?!" But I'm moving. I have to. I already signed the paperwork.
Kidding. I'm two parts excited, two parts terrified, and one part sad.
Anyway, my good buddy and my sister-in-law helped me finish moving all my crap junk valuable teaching materials to my new school today. We were hot, sweaty, and exhausted.
And now I'm having a baby heart attack. Because this room is chock-full of teacher crap. Some of it's mine, some of it's the school's, and some of it belongs to the teacher who was in this room before. Not too much, though.
But I'm freaking out - but under control- but freaking out because I feel like I have so much to do in this room and I'm not sure how things work in this new school. You know, things like
-you have to put the computer over there on that wall because that's where the jack it
-you can't put stuff in front of the window because that's the emergency exit
-don't use the space under the sink for anything because it's against policy
-nothing can hang from the ceiling
-no Scentsys (boohoo waaaah booohoooo)
-don't forget to leave a space for all the materials that will be delivered after school starts!
Those were special rules from my school before. What if this school has lots of special rules?
And I've never done this job before. I have a fantasy plan in my brain for this room, but I don't know if it will work in practice. We'll see. I'll let you know. In the meantime, look at this hot mess:

So what I would love love love is if you can direct me to any great Literacy Lead (or instructional lead) blogs. Mine aren't exactly organized, so it's a bit hit-or-miss, but I can't think of anything better than looking at what the pros are already doing and checking out some great pictures of their rooms. Thanks!

  1. Conversations in Literacy is a good one.

Lesson Plans and Lattes also is good (she used to be a special ed pull out).

    I hope these help!

  2. No Scentsys?! Man that's sad. I will say that the fire code restricts a lot of paper/fabric that can go on the walls at the school I was student teaching at - made decorating more challenging. Can't wait to see what you do with the space!
